Building with AI

Three working products, each built end to end to learn something specific about designing with AI. All of them are live — they open in a new tab.

Ask the Map

Upload personas, journey maps and service blueprints, then ask questions about them. Every answer cites its sources and lights up the journey map. Sign in with demo / demo.

What it taught me

AI can augment collaboration using old deliverables. Citing the source of an answer matters as much as the quality of the answer.

Fieldnote app screens around the tagline “Better diabetes care through AI and logging with purpose”, with a list of self-experiments and glucose pattern charts

Health

Local-first / React / Privacy

Fieldnote

An AI-enabled diabetes companion that turns Dexcom and Glooko exports into small self-experiments. Everything runs on your device, and nothing is uploaded.

What it taught me

It started as a logging app. Once I could use it, the problem was obvious: logging pushes all the interpretive work onto the person who has the least time for it.

Shorts Saver landing page: “Stop losing the good Shorts” beside a cartoon phone surrounded by recipe, exercise and book cards

Personal tool

Shorts Saver

Paste a YouTube Short and get back a tidy card you can actually use: a recipe, a workout, or a book worth reading. No more screenshots.

What it taught me

Extraction is easy (but potentially costly). The design problem is deciding what someone wants to keep to use what's extracted (and to keep it inexpensive).

Things I built for myself

Things I built for myself

Smaller things, built for me and the people I play with.

Dish Freely home screen with tonkotsu ramen as dish of the day above a grid of trending dishes

Dish Freely

Reviews for dishes, not restaurants. A working front end for a startup idea I co-founded in 2011, rebuilt with sample data.

The Swamp Oracle: Auntie Marrow in her purple armchair in a pixel-art swamp shack, beside a bubbling cauldron, with dialogue choices below

The Swamp Oracle

A cranky pixel-art fortune teller who reads your dream, takes five questions, and throws you out with a fortune card.

StatTrack: player stat line above large made and missed shot buttons

StatTrack

A live basketball stat tracker for my team. Every stat is one tap from one screen, because anything else means missing the next possession.
